The Mother & Family – Common People Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Foundation of Everything
Behind every king, every knight, every scribe, every blacksmith, every merchant and minstrel in this collection, there was a Mother — and a family. The family was the most fundamental unit of medieval life, the bedrock upon which every other structure of society rested, and the mother was its center: the one who bore children in an age when childbirth could kill, who raised them in a world of plague and war and grinding poverty, and who held the household together through every hardship that history could throw at it.
Medieval mothers managed the household economy, preserved food, tended the sick, educated their children in faith and craft, and mourned those they lost — and they lost many. In an age of high infant mortality, war, and disease, the love of a mother was the most constant and most courageous force in ordinary life. The family — gathered around the hearth, sharing a meal, telling stories in the firelight — was the reason everything else existed. Every empire, every cathedral, every voyage of discovery was ultimately made possible by the families who raised the people who built them. This card is for them.
