Sir Henry Morgan – Pirates Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Pirate Who Became a Knight
Sir Henry Morgan was the most successful buccaneer in history — a Welsh privateer who sacked some of the most heavily fortified Spanish cities in the Caribbean, including Portobelo and Panama City, and emerged not as a condemned criminal but as a celebrated hero, knighted by King Charles II and appointed Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica.
Morgan’s audacious 1671 raid on Panama City — crossing the jungle isthmus with 1,200 men and destroying one of Spain’s most prized colonial cities — remains one of the most daring military operations of the 17th century. He died wealthy, respected, and in his bed — a feat almost unheard of among men who lived by the sword and the sea.
