Cnut the Great – Vikings Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Viking Who Ruled an Empire
Cnut the Great (also spelled Canute) was the most powerful Viking ruler in history — King of England, Denmark, Norway, and parts of Sweden, he forged a North Sea empire that stretched across the known world of the early 11th century.
Famous for the legendary tale of commanding the tide to turn back (to prove to his flattering courtiers that even a king has limits), Cnut was as shrewd a statesman as he was a conqueror. He ruled England with such skill that many consider his reign a golden age of stability and law.
