Printed on parchment-style paper, this 8.5x11 scroll brings the remarkable story of Bartholomew Roberts — Black Bart, Discipline, and the Height of the Golden Age — to life in stunning detail. Bartholomew Roberts — known as Black Bart — was a Welsh pirate and one of the most successful pirates of the Golden Age. Rising from reluctant recruit to elected captain, his daring, discipline, and distinctive flags made him a legend whose name inspired fear and respect across the seas.
- Recovered Record — Contemporary reports, trial records, and Captain Charles Johnson’s “A General History of the Pyrates” preserve the story of one of the most renowned pirates of his time
- Historical Account — Born John Roberts in Wales around 1682, he was captured by pirates under Howell Davis in 1719 and forced to join them. After Davis was killed, Roberts was elected captain. He operated across the Atlantic — off Brazil, West Africa, and in the Caribbean — capturing more than 400 vessels. He was killed by grapeshot in battle against HMS Swallow off Cape Lopez, West Africa, on February 10, 1722
- When the Story is Told — Roberts shows how order, ambition, and ruthless efficiency could turn piracy into a powerful but short-lived empire at sea
- Did You Know? — Bartholomew Roberts captured more ships than perhaps any other pirate of the era — more than 400 vessels. He insisted on strict rules of conduct aboard ship, earning obedience and making his crew remarkably effective
- Words of Wisdom — "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" — Matthew 16:26
