Anne Bonny & Mary Read – Pirates Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Women Who Out-Fought Every Man on the Ship
Anne Bonny and Mary Read are the most celebrated women pirates in history — two fierce, fearless buccaneers who sailed with Calico Jack and proved themselves the most dangerous fighters aboard his ship.
Anne Bonny, an Irish-born firebrand, left her husband for the pirate life and became Calico Jack’s companion and equal on the high seas. Mary Read sailed disguised as a man, her true identity unknown to most of the crew, and was renowned for her courage in battle. When Calico Jack’s ship was captured in 1720, it was Anne and Mary — not the men — who fought back. Legend holds that Anne’s last words to the captured Calico Jack were: “Had you fought like a man, you need not have been hang’d like a dog.”
