The Eternal King of Norway

Olaf II Haraldsson, known to history as Saint Olaf, ruled Norway from 1015 to 1028 AD and became the country’s patron saint after his death at the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030. Canonized just a year after falling in battle, he is one of the few Viking kings to be venerated across all of Christendom.

His legacy was so enduring that Norway’s coat of arms still bears his lion and axe to this day — nearly a thousand years after his reign.
