Charlemagne – Royal Protectors Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Father of Europe
Charlemagne, King of the Franks and the first Holy Roman Emperor, was the greatest ruler of the medieval world — a warrior-king who united most of Western Europe under a single crown for the first time since the fall of Rome, and whose reign laid the foundations for the nations of France, Germany, and the broader European civilization we know today.
Crowned Emperor by Pope Leo III on Christmas Day, 800 AD, Charlemagne was not merely a conqueror but a protector — of the Church, of learning, of the weak, and of the Christian world against its enemies. He established schools, standardized laws, promoted literacy, and personally led over 50 military campaigns. Standing reportedly over six feet tall in an age when that was extraordinary, he was as imposing in person as he was in legend. The Paladins — his legendary twelve knights — were the original royal protectors, sworn to defend the emperor and the realm with their lives.
