Ansgar (Saint Ansgar) – Vikings Series | Official Renaissance Collector Card
The Apostle of the North
Ansgar, also known as Saint Ansgar or Anscar, was a Frankish monk and archbishop who became the first Christian missionary to bring the Gospel to Scandinavia in the 9th century. Traveling deep into Viking territory at a time when few dared, he established the first churches in Denmark and Sweden and earned the title Apostle of the North.
Though his mission faced fierce resistance and setbacks, his courage and persistence laid the spiritual groundwork that would eventually transform the entire Norse world — making him one of the most consequential figures of the Viking Age, even if he never raised a sword.
